Description

This unit introduces the student to a variety of essential facts, principles and concepts from different branches of Chemistry, including physical, organic, inorganic and analytical. It is designed to be developed further in the Chemistry B (Further) module, or integrated into a wider science base in combination with the modules Biology A, B and C. Topics covered include the structure of atoms, identifying and naming molecules with different functional groups and structures, bonding and intermolecular interactions, trends in the periodic table, reactions of acids and bases, rates of reactions, and chemical calculations. There will be opportunities to apply this knowledge to core case studies.
